Swampdonkey Gypsy & Voyageur

The Gypsy at a glance...

Designed with two channels to offer Roots, Country, Blues, Rock and Jazz players various clean  to crunchy tones. Plug into the "Normal" channel for variable gain and voicing with a 3 band EQ, or into the "Raw" channel for medium gain rich in midrange tones, and no EQ circuit,  that goes from clean to a burly crunch. Additionally, you can cascade the Raw channel into the Normal channel for higher gain tones suitable for Blues and Rock.

The Gypsy™ has been designed with the innovative guitar player in mind who appreciates the creamy rich tones of an amp with a Single Ended Output. The Gypsy™ dishes up 30 watts (actual plate dissipation is 40 watts) of clean, 2nd order harmonic rich amplification from a single KT88 Output Tube coupled to a HiFi grade Output Transformer to give you enormous frequency response and headroom with no Negative Feedback circuit.

Two input channels are provided; Normal and Raw. The Normal channel features the familiar Drive & 6-position Voice controls found on the M50 followed by a 3-way passive tone stack (and Volume control) voiced specifically for the Gypsy. The Raw channel provides a Volume and 3-way Voice switch and has a separate input. This channel is very dominant in the mids and crunches nicely as you increase the volume. Additionally, the Raw channel has an output jack on the back of the amp allowing you to cascade it into the Normal input for a blistering 4 gain stage preamp with meaty tube overdrive for a great rock lead tone. We've also included a 3 position global "Accent" control on the output stage for shaping your tone and on the rear of the amp, we've included a 1/2 power switch. This switch drops the plate dissipation from 40 to 28 watts.

This amp will do clean and overdrive with headroom to spare and is whisper quiet when you aren't playing. Besides the Single Ended KT88 output, the glass menagerie is completed by two ECC83S preamp tubes and a GZ34 rectifier. For slightly less gain in the Normal channel, we recommend swapping the 1st ECC83S with a 12AY7.

We also build this amp with reverb instead of the "RAW" channel. This incarnation brings a wonderful creamy single ended amp with a full tube and transformer driven reverb with your choice of tank. We're calling this amp the "Voyageur". Our shop is equipped to demo both versions, so come by and plug in!
